This title might seem a little bit misleading, since pain is an inevitable part of life. But I like the quote that goes something like this: “Shoot for the moon, and you’ll land somewhere in the stars.”
The truth is, we have a large degree of control over how we meet the inevitable pain that comes with living, and whether or not we suffer in our experience. Our daily, and moment-by-moment choices also have great influence over how much pain is caused in the first place.
For me, it took becoming absolutely fed up with suffering from pain - physical and emotional - before I humbly surrendered, and a way of pain-free living was gradually revealed to me. It’s an ongoing practice, to simply be present with pain and open up to its messages. Can you imagine being present with pain, yet without dwelling in it or giving it unhelpful power? Pain can be our friend, when we treat it like one.
When I let go of fretting about a pain I am feeling, and instead meet it with gentle, objective curiosity, there is no suffering in that encounter. It is simply an opportunity to come closer to myself, to befriend myself, to find out what I need, to care for myself. Pain is a messenger, not an antagonist. Miraculously, or so it seems, pain dissolves when it is properly met and understood.
Chronic pain has a different cause than most acute pain, and asks for a different response. My new mini-course, The Way of Pain-Free Living, is focused on chronic body-pain, and its physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. Chronic pain is pain sensations that persist for many months or more, come and go, and/or move around the body mysteriously. The medical model is generally unable to help much with chronic pain, due to its emotional origins.
In the course, I highlight 3 pillars of understanding and healing chronic pain, and our relationship with it. It is helpful to realize the true origins of this kind of body-pain, and then to learn how to heal the nervous system, and how to relate openly and positively to our thoughts and emotions. A series of worksheet questions and invitations will help the course participant to make a personal assessment, and start taking the most helpful kinds of actions toward real healing.
Right now, until May 12th, this new mini-course is only available inside of an online Raw Vegan Bundle collaboration, which includes dozens of other mini-courses and e-books by my colleagues, including many brand new raw vegan recipe books.
